Today, many industrial applications use industrial touch PCs (TPCs) and human machine interfaces (HMIs) to acquire, process, store or visualize data. While both share a common plant-level task, the design of a TPC or an HMI is often hard to distinguish from one another at first glance. Many users even call a TPC an HMI, which adds to the potential confusion. There are, however, technical differences between the two types that go beyond their outward physical appearance. These differences include feature set, connectivity, levels of flexibility for changing or adding functionality to the system, and last but not least, overall performance.


It is a pre-installed Touch Panel PC (TPC) with a Windows or Linux operating system and WEBICC SCADA, which offers a significant advantage compared to other competitive TPC/HMI models.

HMI (Human Machine Interface) is a user interface or dashboard that connects a person to a machine, system or device. While the term can technically be applied to any screen that allows a user to interact with a device, HMI is most commonly used in the context of an industrial process.

It works in a different way, an HMI uses a certain amount of data and represents it visually, on a local basis, allowing for a better understanding and a more efficient supervision process. On the other hand, SCADA systems are focused on control system operations and have huge data collection capacity.

Although the two systems often work together, it is possible to use HMI without SCADA, as HMI provides a graphical user interface to locally control and monitor machines, while SCADA is designed to provide more comprehensive monitoring solutions on larger networks of locally and remotely connected machines.

One of the key differences between a PLC and an HMI is their primary function. While a PLC is responsible for executing control logic and managing inputs and outputs, an HMI focuses on providing a user-friendly interface for operators to interact with the system.

PLCs are designed for real-time control tasks, controlling individual devices or small-scale processes, while SCADA systems provide a higher level of supervision, data acquisition, and analysis for large-scale industrial processes.
